Creativate Foundation

by Mueller, Monica

Abstract

In April of 2013, Colorado College hosted a momentous entrepreneurial event for its students. The Big Idea was a pitch event where Colorado College students presented their project idea before a panel of five judges in order to compete for $50,000 in funding towards the project. The panel reviewed the project ideas based on financial stability, effect on quality of life, feasibility and presentation, and the potential impact of the project on the world. In this video clip, entrepreneur Monica Mueller presents her Big Idea, Creativate Foundation.

Note

"The world is changing at an exponential rate, and I believe that creativity an essential tool to survive in the globalized world. Actively cultivating creativity in children will help them later in life to think critically, be happier, and create opportunities for themselves. Enter: Cultivate. Cultivate's mission is to teach underprivileged kids in Southern Argentina how to be creative with a variety of medias. Learning creative skill sets can not only set them up for future job opportunities, but also open their mind to personal ventures they might not have considered. Southern Argentinians grow up only knowing the pastoral lifestyle. Cultivate's role in their life is to expose them to skills and creative expression that they would otherwise not have access to. Their creations help improve their quality of life, and expands their minds. Cultivate will be both a non-profit and for-profit entity. The non-profit sector will accept donations in the form of art supplies, cameras, computers, software, and money to give to the children. The children will be trained in whatever media they prefer, and given complete creative freedom with how they want to express themselves. Each town that cultivate is a part of will have a ╩║creative ambassador╩║ that will be trained and knowledgeable to help the kids with whatever creative endeavor they want to explore, in addition to holding workshops to continually cultivate creative thinking. To be a sustainable entity, Cultivate will take images of the children's art and manufacture them into iPhone cases. These cases will be sold online, and will have the image and story of the artist who created it. Because iPhone cases have an extremely high profit margin, a huge portion of the money can go back into the non-profit."--Business proposal
