City Roots

by Harlam, Jeremy, Birmingham, Sara, Lindseth, Fredrik

Abstract

In April of 2013, Colorado College hosted a momentous entrepreneurial event for its students. The Big Idea was a pitch event where Colorado College students presented their project idea before a panel of five judges in order to compete for $50,000 in funding towards the project. The panel reviewed the project ideas based on financial stability, effect on quality of life, feasibility and presentation, and the potential impact of the project on the world. In this video clip, entrepreneurs Fredrik Lindseth, Jeremy Harlam and Sara Birmingham present their Big Idea, City Roots. Fredrik Lindseth, Jeremy Harlam and Sara Birmingham were awarded third place and $2000 for their Big Idea, City Roots.

Note

"In an over populated world, food's health and availability is becoming more and more problematic. We aim to sell fresh, local, healthy fish and produce. We will do so through the use of aquaponics, the farming of both fish and produce in a closed system. The symbiotic relationship lowers costs and increases yields. We will offer our products to local restaurants as well as farmers markets and grocery stores. We can establish ourselves in any city to provide an always fresh product year round. We will mainly target out of season produce to fill demand that normally goes unmet."--Business proposal
