Man Kissing a Geisha

by Anonymous

Abstract

This print's format and subject suggests that it belonged to a set of shunga ("spring pictures" or erotic prints). The woman, identified as a female entertainer or "geisha" by her musical instrument), falls prey to the seductions of the man, who slides his hand inside her kimono. The tittilation of the image is heightened by the fact that at the time the print was made (probably the late 1700s judging by the style), geisha normally did were forbidden to have sexual relations with the men they entertained.
